Unlike Men of War, infantry units actively seek cover when engaging. Just like in Men of War, cover is an important gameplay mechanic. It also has some AMAZING custom missions made by users.Ĭompany of Heroes is more of a traditional RTS mixed with some tactical gameplay mechanics.
#Sudden strike 4 series
Despite its flaws, Men of War is a fun game, and with a few tweaks, the series can become a classic in the future. Infantry animations also look stiff and unnatural.
However, infantry units and vehicles often have terrible pathfinding, and need you to babysit them constantly (infantry, for example, won't seek cover unless you explicitly order them to do that). Tanks, for example, can be disabled by anti-tank guns and later repaired and captured by your forces. Vehicles also have a realistic damage model. Units have their own individual inventory and can share equipment. It's a game with a focus on realism and a steep learning curve, but also offers you a great amount of freedom.
Men of War is an extremely tactical game, with a heavy focus on micromanagement. I was a big fan of the old games, they were awesome for the time, but the now one look like a step backwards. just look up MOW tank turret dancing unable to make up their mind about what target to shoot or them squashing one of your own squads by driving over them.ĬOH can be fun, but there is zero depth compared to MOW.

Īnd a big plus: there's still a big modding community and the mods can be extremely interesting.īut let's be honest: the player AI is a dumbass. While for example wargame is more of a rock/paper/scissors sim, MOW actually benefits from using real tactics like combined warfare, specific infantry manoeuvres, ambushes. It's intense, but not a clickfest and you keep discovering new thing while expanding your historical knowledge about WW2 hardware. Endless fun, teamwork, it gives you a ton of possibilities but doesn't force you to use them (except refuelling and some types of ammo reloading. We've been playing this game for years (and to a lesser extent: wargame airland battle), mostly coop skirm. God help the German armour in that game, which boils down to "You can have a wide variety, as long as its a Panzer II or IV." Also, that game lacks units so much it isn't funny. I don't know what it is but the infantry models are off-putting to me. And what you are going for.Īs for Sudden Strike 4, I don't touch that game at all. Once again, it cracks down to preference. But for the crowd it aims for, it's almost perfect.
Attention to detail in that game still blows me away today, although I do acknowledge that it can be clunky and hard to pick up. AS2 is pretty much the wet dream of any WWII-fan. MOW:AS2 (Here forth, AS2) is more for the hardcore RTS/History crowd due to its deep mechanics and quite the attention to historical detail. If you just happen to also like that sort of simple gameplay + WWII, then CoH2 is great. But they are meant to appeal to the widest RTS crowd as possible. Similar kin to where I put games like Starcraft. I think it depends on what you are looking for.ĬoH2 is a very.
